The indoor tanning devices (sunbeds) in this salon use ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Certain negative health effects (as described below) can be caused by overexposure to UV radiation from indoor tanning. Spray tanning options are available as an alternative.
Warnings and information:
A person who uses a tanning device in this tanning facility must use protective eyewear.
If the provided eye protection is not worn, use of a tanning device in this tanning facility may cause damage to the eyes.
Overexposure to the ultraviolet radiation produced by a tanning device in this tanning facility may cause burns.
Exposure to the ultraviolet radiation produced by the tanning devices in this tanning facility may cause premature aging of the skin and skin cancer.
Abnormal skin sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation or burning may be caused by certain foods, cosmetics, or medication, including the following:
Tranquilizers.
Diuretics.
Antibiotics.
High blood pressure medication.
Birth control medication.
Other photosensitizing agents
An individual who is taking a prescription drug or over-the-counter drug should consult a physician before using a tanning device.
In addition to those mentioned above, the following persons should consult a physician before using any UV tanning device:
Anyone who has a history of skin problems or sensitivity to sunlight or UV rays; or
Anyone who is, or may be, pregnant.
Persons with a family or past medical history of skin cancer should avoid the use of UV tanning beds.
UV tanning is strictly limited to no more than one session per calendar day in most locations, however, locations in WI, TX, PA, MN, IN, and IA are limited to no more than one session in a 24-hour period.
Sessions are limited to controlled intervals, depending on the individual tanner and the equipment utilized.
It is your responsibility to avoid overexposure.
The lamps in the UV tanning devices are strong, so we strongly caution all tanners to introduce yourself to them slowly by beginning with partial sessions, especially if your natural tendency is to easily burn.
The average UV sunbed acrylic has a weight limit of 300 lbs. For the safety and comfort of persons who are near or over this limit, stand-up sunbeds should be used. Clients who are at or over this limit that request to use lay-down UV sunbeds assume full responsibility for any and all medical costs or repair/replacement costs incurred if the acrylic breaks during their tanning session, or if the sunbed sustains damage as a result of their session and requires repair or replacement to ensure the safety of the sunbed for future tanners.
Spray Tanning
The Spray tanning solution used in this salon includes the color additive DHA (dihydroxyacetone). DHA reacts with the amino acids in the skin to produce a “browning reaction” imparting temporary color to the outer layers of skin in most individuals. DHA has been approved by the FDA for use in externally applied cosmetics; however, because the Spray tanning solutions have not been specifically tested as a spray-on mist application, the Spray tanning solutions themselves are not FDA approved. In addition, even though the individual ingredients have been approved for use on the skin, the FDA has not approved them for applications that involve inhalation or contact with human mucous membranes, such as eyes or inside the nose and mouth or any other part of the body covered by mucous membrane.
Warnings and information:
If you have had any adverse effects utilizing self–tanning lotions, cosmetics, moisturizers or other products, you will probably experience similar effects from Spray tanning; therefore, you should consult a physician before using Spray tanning.
During the Spray tanning session, it is possible for the solution/mist to contact the eyes, the inside of the nose and mouth, or other parts of the body covered by mucous membrane. As a precaution, we recommend the following steps be undertaken when using the Spray tanning booth:
Cover eye areas with protective eyewear, seal lips with lip balm, use nose plugs or filters and wear a disposable undergarment (each of these items is available for purchase from the salon).
Close your eyes and hold your breath during each misting pass (each pass lasts about 8 seconds).
If you should inadvertently inhale some of the mist or if it gets in the eyes, consult a physician if you begin to have any symptoms that raise concern.
Be aware that Spray tanning will not prevent your skin from burning in the natural sun or tanning bed.
More than one Spray tanning session per 12 hours is not recommended.
For certain specific conditions, an individual should not use Spray tanning or should consult a physician before considering doing so. For example:
Those with a history of asthma or respiratory conditions may have their condition aggravated by the mist used in Spray tanning.
Some of the ingredients used with Spray tanning contain a sugar base, which may cause blood sugar levels to rise.
Some of the solutions may contain a nut extract, and allergic reactions by persons who are allergic to nuts have been reported.
It is possible for DHA to stain undergarments or clothing. The salon is not responsible for any damage to clothing following or related to Spray tanning.
The solution is not known to penetrate hair follicles, and we are not aware of any instances where the tanning solution has changed a person’s hair color; nonetheless, the salon provides disposable shower caps to cover your hair if you so desire.
Infrared Sauna Equipment
The main difference between infrared saunas and traditional saunas is how they use heat. Instead of heating the air within the enclosure, infrared saunas heat the body directly. The result is deeper tissue penetration for a deeper sweat at a lower air temperature. Infrared saunas are also dry saunas, and many users find this makes for a more comfortable sauna session. Note: Always drink plenty of water before, during, and after a session to replenish fluids lost.
Warnings and information:
The biggest infrared sauna danger (which also applies to all types of saunas) is overheating, which can result in heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
The next biggest infrared sauna danger is dehydration. Although many people do not take dehydration seriously, they should. In a sauna you can lose a great deal of water through sweat.
Depletion of minerals and electrolytes is another risk. Water and toxins aren’t the only thing you lose in a sauna. Your sweat will also contain electrolytes and minerals.
Do not use the sauna if you are under the influence of alcohol as the risk of injury is exacerbated.
If you have a new sprain, strain, injury, etc. you should avoid the infrared sauna for 24-48 hours to give your body time to recover. You will not speed up healing processes by using infrared light therapy or infrared saunas on a new, swollen, and inflamed injury and doing so may even make it feel worse.
You should consult your physician BEFORE using any Infrared Sauna Equipment if you are taking medication of any kind, have a history of skin problems or sensitivity to infrared rays, are or may be pregnant, or have any of the following conditions: Cardiac problems, Implanted Pacemaker, Open Wounds, Severe General Infection, Lactation (Breast Feeding), Low Blood Pressure, Hemophilia, Infectious Skin Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Fever, Active Cancer, Epilepsy
Some sauna equipment, such as the Cocoon Fitness Pod, combine infrared and dry heat sauna mechanisms and as such should be used with extra caution and all warnings heeded as it may require physical exertion that may be strenuous and may cause physical injury. Client fully assumes and accepts all such risks and responsibility for losses, costs, and damages that may result.
